On February 2024, the vibrant community of Mayor Street, Molyko Buea, came alive with joy, laughter, and the spirit of togetherness as we celebrated the Cherishing Childhood event. This special occasion was dedicated to honoring the innocence, creativity, and potential of our Children, providing them with a day filled with fun, education, and empowerment.
These Activities were a success because of our great partnerships with The Lesley Foundation, Gracious Gifters Foundation, and Hope for a Better Tomorrow (HOBET).
During this event, the key highlights were;
Interactive Workshops on;
Human Rights Education:
Sessions were conducted to educate children about their basic human rights, empowering them with the knowledge to understand and advocate for their rights.
Menstrual Health Management:
Young girls were taught how to track their menstrual cycle and the importance of understanding their bodies. They also learned how to make menstrual beads, a practical tool to help them manage their menstrual health with confidence.
Safety from Exploitation and Abuse:
Kids were educated on recognizing signs of sexual exploitation and abuse, and were given practical steps on what to do if faced with such situations. This included how to seek help, report abuse, and support peers in similar situations.
Sports and Games:
- Friendly Competitions: The event featured a series of friendly sports competitions, including soccer, egg races and tug-of-war. These activities promoted teamwork, physical fitness, and healthy competition among the children.
- Fun Games: Traditional games like sack races, Flip and win were a hit, bringing smiles and laughter to the young participants.
Talent Show:
Showcasing Talents: The talent show was a highlight of the event, where children had the opportunity to showcase their dancing skills. The audience was treated to an array of impressive performances, celebrating the diverse talents of the youth in our community.
Community Involvement:
Volunteer Support: The success of the event was made possible by the dedication and hard work of our volunteers, who ensured that every activity ran smoothly and that all children had a memorable experience.
